Congress Centre - a striking modernist 1950s' conference & events venue in London WC1

Congress Centre is a purpose-designed conference and events venue set within architecturally-renowned Congress House, the TUC’s landmark headquarters building which was constructed in the 1950s. Located on Great Russell Street in the heart of central London, moments from Tottenham Court Road Underground Station, the building is a rare example of a modernist Grade II listed commercial premises and in the past has been billed by Time Out magazine as one of London’s “20 great buildings”.

Congress Centre is owned by the TUC but operates as a stand-alone conference and events venue. Following a comprehensive refurbishment a few years ago, it is now a popular choice with corporate clients for large conferences, meetings and events. Clients value its impressive spaces, central London location and quirky 1950s’ retro vibe.

There is a choice of 16 conference and events spaces at the venue including 500-seater Congress Hall with original wood panelling and a striking 1950s' space-frame ceiling, the Marble Hall which overlooks the building's central courtyard with its imposing sculpture by Sir Jacob Epstein, Pietà, carved on the spot from a single ten-ton block of Roman stone, the wood-panelled Council Chamber and a range of other rooms in a more contemporary style.

Reviews and Previous Work:

2014: Ewan McGregor, Damian Lewis and Naomie Harris came to the venue to film scenes for their movie Our Kind of Traitor, an adaptation of John le Carré’s novel. According to Adam Richards, Supervising Location Manager on the film, “We wanted to give our world of MI5 a more contemporary feel, rather than stuffy establishment which is how it is normally portrayed, and Congress Centre fitted the bill perfectly with its striking modernist spaces.”

2013: Congress Centre was used as a key location for the popular ITV medical drama, Breathless, starring Jack Davenport, Joanna Page and Sarah Parish.
