Filming at National Museum Wales

Commercial filming helps to support National Museum Wales as a registered charity. We welcome filming requests including feature films, television dramas, documentaries, factual programmes, interviews, and photographic shoots. All seven of our national museums across the length and breadth of Wales offer a range of unique locations...

Big Pit: National Mining Museum
A real coal mine and one of Britain's leading mining museums, set in the heather clad moors of Blaenavon, a unique industrial landscape designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Historic colliery buildings and facilities include stables, engines, surface workings, blacksmith shop, Pithead baths, underground tours, gallery and exhibitions.

National Museum Cardiff
Impressive neo-classical city centre museum with grand hall with marble floors, stone walls and pillars stretching upwards to a dome. Contains historic and modern art galleries, geology and natural history collections. Also formal meeting rooms, 340 seat lecture theatre and 'behind the scenes' stores, corridors and laboratories.

National Waterfront Museum
Housed in a magnificent building that combines old and new architecture overlooking Swansea Marina. A Grade II listed former dockside warehouse built in 1902 with vaulted ceilings, contrasts with a spectacular award-winning new glass and slate structure.

National Wool Museum
The picturesque village of Dre-fach Felindre in the beautiful Teifi valley was once the centre of a thriving woollen industry. Located in the historic former Cambrian Mills, the Museum commemorates the long history of the Welsh woollen industry. The mill currently houses industrial textile machinery along with displays, textile galleries and exhibitions.

St Fagans National History Museum
One of Europe's biggest open-air museums featuring re-erected historic buildings from all over Wales. Properties include a 12th century Church, an Elizabethan manor house, Victorian schoolhouse and village, original ironworkers cottages, farmhouses, and an 18th century Chapel, all set in over 100 acres of beautiful countryside, ornamental grounds lakes and gardens.

National Slate Museum
In the shadow of Elidir mountain in the picturesque Padarn Country Park, the Museum occupies the site of the former Dinorwig slate quarry. Workshops and Buildings are designed as though quarrymen and engineers have just put down their tools and left the courtyard for home. Contains galleries, historic machinery and buildings including a row of quarrymen’s houses.

National Roman Legion Museum
The Museum lies in what remains of the fortress of the furthest outpost of the mighty Roman Empire. Built in 1850, the museum contains exhibitions, a reconstructed barrack room, artefacts and a Roman garden. The nearby ruins include the most complete amphitheatre in Britain and the only remains of Legion barracks on view anywhere in Europe.

Previous filming at our 7 national museums range from Dr Who, Torchwood, Upstairs Downstairs and Sherlock to Poldark, Stella, Pobl y Cwm and Gwaith Cartref. We have also appeared in Time Watch, Secret Britain, Ancient Britain and the much-loved Flog It! and Antiques Roadshow.
