Lowther Gastle & Gardens

A dramatic ruined castle, (Robert Smirke designed), fronting 130 acres of lost gardens in the process of restoration.
The castle is located on the eastern edge of the Lake District National Park, with stunning views from parts.
Having been abandoned for over 70 years, having been used for secret tank weapons testing in WWII, the original 17th C. garden layout, with later Victorian and Edwardian additions was left to run wild.
The castle ruins have been stabilised, and the lawns restored, whilst the gardens are being recovered.
